Happy Little Things

01. / Every Wednesday I visit my aunt and uncle for "Survivor Night." Before Survivor starts, I take their dog Cooper on a walk. But this past Wednesday, the skies unexpectedly poured rain. But I, along with my cousin who's currently pregnant and was down from the mountains visiting her parents, decided to take Cooper on a walk anyway. I'd worn flip flops--a mistake due to the slipperiness of the ground and Cooper pulling me along like he always does. So hoodie over my head, the rain falling from the dark sky, I took off my flips and walked barefoot while my cousin "pregnant jogged" (as she referred to it) next to me. On that night, the simple act of my feet hitting the wet pavement was unexpectedly freeing and therapeutic and calming and wonderful and... for fifteen minutes, my soul was full of childlike happiness.

02. / My cousin (who I mentioned above) has a one-year-old (soon to be two) who is the sweetest boy. Two weekends ago on my trip up to Flagstaff, he learned how to say my nickname "Krissie." However, it sounds more like "kissy" or "sissy." It's the sweetest thing and my cousin texted me a few times over the past few weeks saying he's been asking for "Krissie." Heart. Melt. Little kids have this way of making you feel incredibly important.

03. / "She took the leap and built her wings on the way down." These words keep following me. I've come across them half a dozen times in the past week and I feel like it so perfectly describes my life right now. I've slowly learned to let go of the pain and have discovered that time does heal wounds. And little by little, I'm starting to feel like myself again and can appreciate the person I'm becoming.

Operation Happiness: Week Three

HAPPINESS3.png
  • Disney channel original movies. Confession: I loved Cloud 9.
  • A shiny clean bathroom. Doesn’t that just feel the best?
  • Dinner with Gwen on Wednesday + having a genuine conversation with someone. It'd been too long.
  • Finding a font I’m absolutely in love with for half off. Expect to see it a TON!
  • Eating chocolate pudding while watching The Walking Dead, which should now be the norm. For those who don’t watch the show, see this picture to—kinda—understand why.
  • Having President’s Day off work.
  • Federal tax returns, despite already spending half of it.
  • Purchasing a ticket to Tennessee for my 25th birthday (with my tax return).
  • Bringing my lunch to work—apple, peanut butter, boiled egg, fruit, almonds, etc.—inspired by Starbucks protein box.
  • Chobani yogurt + Dunkin Donuts every morning.
  • The gals at Target having my back when I ripped my jeans in the dressing room. I somehow left Target with only the two Target employees knowing about my embarrassing situation.
  • Being reminded that U2 will always be rad. Been listening to Ordinary Love & old favorites like Stuck in a Moment.
  • My friend Michal visiting from California and staying with me for three nights.
  • Reading The Fault In Our Stars. Teenage romance novels FTW.
  • Getting out of work at 3 o’clock on Thursday.
  • Laser tag Friday night—a little boy about seven or eight found me in the middle of the game and said, "I can help you!" then continued to follow me around and actually had my back. At the end of the game he said, "That was fun! Are you playing the next round?" He made me feeling pretty darn cool and special.
  • Laughing more than I've laughed in a very long time at The LEGO Movie. See it. It's fantastic.

  • Cousin Beckett's sweet smile and laughter
  • Peach + strawberry + banana smoothies from Tropical Smoothie
  • Family time on Tuesday when my Aunt invited me over for dinner
  • Finding the perfect grey nail polish
  • The possibility of having someone to go to church with again; SO excited!
  • Coffee; specifically mochas (this should always be on the list)
  • Celebrating my Aunt's birthday with breakfast, shopping, babysitting Beckett, cake + The Croods
  • The purchase of my Diesel watch that I've been eyeing for several weeks // (regular $140 & the sale price was $40)
  • Cancelling my gym membership—finally! I never went so this will save me $30 / month
  • Getting back to my life since—somewhat—since I finished watching Breaking Bad

Operation Happiness is a GO

Here's an attempt to start acknowledging—on a weekly basis—some of the little things that have recently made me happy.

  • Receiving kisses on my hand from a tiny yellow lab with the softest fur
  • Cold air & Arizona feeling like winter again for the past few days
  • Going to the grocery store to get girl scout cookies, only to discover that they don't sell on the weekends, then coming home to see a girl with a wagon selling cookies only a few doors down
  • A quiet, productive Friday at the end of a stressful, emotional week
  • The five hours spent making snazzy invitations for my cousin's Daytona 500 party
  • Excessively saying "yo"—Jessie Pinkman style—due to my new obsession with Breaking Bad
  • Organizing closets and my room
  • Spotify's new playlists; currently listening to Mood Booster—give it a listen!
  • Escaping to a coffee shop mid-week to catch up on some work & personal things
  • Feeling cold + clean after a long bath and snuggling up in warm sheets
  • The smell of Burt's Bees Milk & Honey lotion
  • Taking the time to finally blog and create

What's made you happy this week?!
